Marathon Distance – April 14th Bike Ride
My Sunday meeting finished about on time so I was able to ride in some beautiful April weather. Scattered clouds, 83 degrees at the start dropping to 79 at the finish but I did endure a 17 mph SE wind. Before I started out I watched the last 3 Km of the Amstel-Gold race from Europe. I was able to to watch some of the race before I left for church. Today I wore a long sleeve jersey in case the wind had some coolness; I was very comfortable and no sunscreen on my arms.
The stiff wind did not keep me from improving my average speed over yesterday to 14.8 mph over the 26.19 mile course going north to Community Drive, up over US59 (my only hill) and on to Valley Ranch where I ran into the head wind. I did stop at the Stripes store on FM1314 at Valley Ranch Parkway to recover from the wind and drink a Diet Pepsi. It is always interesting to watch the people coming and going at convenience store (or any public place for that matter). I did not realize but I road a marathon distance.
Adding today’s ride April now totals 335.25 miles and year to date I rode 1649.89 miles. I am about 385 Â miles from my April goal of 720 miles with 16 days to go. It is still up in the air if I will hit my goal but I am working on it. Tomorrow I probably will not ride due to my brother-in-law’s funeral in Carmona, TX.
