Double Long Sleeves – January 11th Bike Ride
By this time of the year the leaves should be off the trees but with our rather warm December they hung around. Because of this when I started today’s ride the 70 degrees felt cooler than that helped by the 8 mph SSE breeze. At first I was going to wear a long sleeve jersey over a short sleeve one but for some reason I changed to two long sleeve jerseys. I am glad I did. Probably a better choice would have been a windbreaker over a long sleeve jersey. No leg warmers today. When I left the house at 12:57 the clouds were broken enough for some sun to shine through for a little warming effect but as the ride progressed the clouds thickened and by the time I got back home at 3:19 the sun was covered by clouds.
Today’s route to Huffman and back was the first road ride of the year. I thought the miles would be less than 30 but it turned out to be 30.08 which brings January miles up to 49.38, still short of the 267.25 from last year but a step in the right direction. Getting on the road Sunday, Monday and Tuesday does not look promising with the high temperature each day in the 40’s, well below my 60 degree cutoff. So I will be looking for riding opportunities starting Wednesday. Getting on the windtrainer may be the best I can do.
As expected riding over Lake Houston on the FM1960 causeway was chilly with the wind blowing cool air off the lake. It seemed extra cool going west because I stopped in Huffman at the Chevron station to make a phone call and cooled down too much. when I got back on the bike the cool wind and no sun made for a chilling ride. I did not warm up from there until I got home.
The only other bicyclists I saw were on W. Lake Houston Parkway while I went north and they rode south on the bike lane.
