Finally Able to Ride Again – November 18th Bike Ride
I finally got back on the bike today. My last ride on November 9th was followed by an all day meeting on Saturday November 10th. When I got home from my meeting I noticed my sinus were not right. From then until today I battled sinusitis. I have not felt like biking and the cool weather did not help any. Today the temperature was 71 as I started the ride and slowly moved up to 74 when I finished after riding 1:15:54. Clear skies and low humidity are appreciated. It is supposed to warm up a few degrees as the week goes along.
With my not feeling so good all week I thought a mountain bike ride would be best. So I rode my Motobecane 700HT on the Kingwood Trails. I wanted to get 12 miles or more and ended up riding 15.41 miles. Since I rode my mountain bike the average speed was only 12.2 mph with 18.2 mph for my top speed. Garmin Connect and RideWithGPS.com disagreed slightly with these numbers but just tenths of a mph.November miles now total 178.64 and YTD total 6118.86 miles.
The cooling temperatures and shorter daylight are turning the leaves to their fall colors. Another contributing factor is the lack of rain. After 18 days I can only remember one very light rain during the night. My grass is looking like it did last year in the drought and the Houston Chronicle SCIGuy is starting to talk about drought conditions and percentages again. As I rode south over the San Jacinto River on W. Lake Houston Parkway I could see the water level is down some and one log stuck up out of the water with a sunbathing turtle soaking up the heat. When I returned back I looked for the log so that I could take a picture but I did not remember the location.
I am almost recovered and with a little warmer weather I hope to get some serious road miles this coming week.
