Come join us for the 2nd Annual CPR Ride and Summer Picnic, aka the Second Annual Memorial Ride and Picnic for the Formerly Late Stanton Truxillo. Last year, we trained about 50+ people on the “Hands Only†or “10 minute†CPR. The CPR class is free to all and will be held at…

2 day trails
by MOSZÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â forums.mtbr.com
Are there any good 2 day long trails in Texas? I would like to camp out on a trail somewhere in Texas. I don’t think there is anything like that in my part of Texas Austin/San Antonio. Or anywhere near Texas; New Mexico, Arizona?

Respectfully Meaningless
by Steve AÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â DFW Point-to-Point
This is a topic where I fear to tread. However, the “Institute for Sharrow Research” can remain silent no more. You see, sharrows are one of the subjects on which bicycle advocates MOST love to argue with each other. Which makes it dangerous for me to tread, for fear of being accused of ridiculing same. And hence the title of this post. I really DO mean that first word. I really like the…
How to Recover Fast from Grueling Endurance Exercise
Dr. Gabe Mirkin’s Fitness and Health E-Zine      July 29, 2012
Bradley Wiggins, the winner of the just-completed 2235- mile, 21-day 2012 Tour de France, states that the most important way to recover from grueling endurance sports is to eat as much as you can, as soon as you can, after you finish each competition.
That does not mean that you have to spend your money on expensive special recovery drinks or foods. A study from Oxford University in England shows that advertised claims about performance-enhancing sports drinks are usually not supported by scientifically relevant studies and that more than 84 percent of studies mentioned by the product sellers are studies supported financially by the sellers. (British Medical Journal Open July 18, 2012).

San Marcos Bicycle Tour
by Justin         Bike Geek
One of many sights as I closed in on San Marcos, TX
Pure spring water bubbles up from the Balcones Escarpment and forms the headwaters of the San Marcos River. They say this collection of some thirty springs has never run dry. There’s even evidence that ancient people, some 10,000 years ago, inhabited this area full of clear, crisp water.
If I sound a little obsessed with water, your instincts have served you well indeed. Water was my lifeline. Literally. This past weekend I completed a 121-mile roundtrip, overnight bicycle tour from my home in San Antonio to…

Reveille Peak Ranch Camping Trip
by tonkster         Brazos Valley Mountain Bike Association
For months we have been talking about camping and riding at Reveille Peak Ranch (RPR), well that happened last weekend.
Although some of our members have traveled to RPR before – this wknd James, Collin, Mike, Kerry, Gina, Christopher and Joel had the chance to gather in mt bike fellowship and explore all that RPR had to offer.
We all arrive at different times on Friday and after getting camp somewhat set up Mike, Collin and Joel took off for a quick ride up to Decision Point, the highest point on the property. After about and hour and half of riding we arrive back at camp. Only of few minor mishaps but…
Cycling – Tour de Longneques 28 July 2012
Don Bynum’s Blog
On the morning of July 28, 2012 sixteen seriously deranged folks mounted-up and headed off into the Texas summer to make the 36 mile ride from the â€so weird it makes Austin look normal†community of Castell eastwards on FM152 to the Llano Courthouse Square and back. As is the custom, many partook of a curative soak in the Llano afterwards as well as pouring carbs in the form of…

Spoiler alert:Â Â Skip the next paragraph if you don’t want to know who won today’s women’s Olympic time trial race…
This morning, I watched the women’s Olympic time trial race. The Olympic organization had three golden chairs set up near the finish. Those three chairs were for the women who currently had the top three times. It was amusing to watch a rider “lose” her chair when a rider came in with a better time. I don’t think those chairs are a good idea! In the end, American Kristin Armstrong (no relation to Lance) was in the center golden chair…
STCC Strava Time Trial
by sooner1Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Shawnee Trail Cycling Club
This is for Shawnee Trail Cycling Club members only – want to find out how to join? Click here.
We’ve been asked many times for the club to stage a Time Trial event. Although an official Time Trial takes planning, preparation, coordination with municipalities, licensing and many, many other things – and we wanted any contest we put together to focus on fitness and the enjoyment of being on a bike. So, we thought we’d take advantage of our use of Strava and stage a roaming time trial competition utilizing Strava segments. If you aren’t signed up for Strava and want to know how, visit www.strava.com. The basic account is free.
Each month, we’ll search Frisco and the surrounding communities for an appropriate segment for you to ride and compete against your peers. The segments will be from 1/2 mile to 10 miles long and will be on segments of road with minimal or no stops and with as little traffic as possible. Remember these are open roads and…

The Frisco City Council approved our mountain bike trail at Tuesday night’s session. Once the agreement has been signed by the City Manager, expected within a week, the official “building” of the trail will begin. Exciting times!! We’ve been telling you to get your shovels, rakes and lawn mowers ready – now you can put them in the car and wait for our team to make the call to work. We’re hoping to have a 2-3 mile track ready for September use. The organizational team is meeting in the next week and…
