New Wrinkles on My Route – July 2nd Bicycle Ride
After two days of sporadic rain I got back on the road this morning. The rain lowered the temperature but not the humidity. Scattered clouds, 91 degrees (at the end), 9.2 mph SSE breeze awaited when I started my ride this morning at 9:41 AM. When I took the picture of my home weather station panel before I left the humidity showed 82% so I figured I would be dripping but when I got out on the road perspiration was not a real big problem.
I added a couple of new wrinkles to my route riding north on Loop 494 before moving over to the US59 north bound service road. Once I got to FM1314 I turned east back to Loop 494. I started riding Loop 494 north lately since there is a nice shoulder. When I got to Michael Lane I turned right to go through the area I used to live. I wondered if there would be a dog problem since the roads go past many rural homes where dog owners don’t always fence their dogs. Many years ago I got nipped by a tiny dog that chased me and I stopped when the owner said he didn’t bite. That was a big mistake. Several dogs barked at me but none ran out to chase me today. These extra streets added a mile or so to my route which totaled 31.94 miles. The two days off probably helped me get my average speed up to 15.7 mph with 22.6 mph max speed. Average cadence came in at 79.8 RPM. Since this is the first ride of July the only mileage to report is the YTD at 3,346.36 miles.
Before leaving on the ride I watched the Tour de France live on my Atrix 4G cell phone docked in a lapdock. I do not enjoy the NBCSports coverage with all of the side stuff so I watch the British EuroSport channel. I stopped watching around the 50K to go point and will resume with a recorded version from NBCSports so I can skipped all of the commercials and boring interviews.
