Invisibility Cloak Not On – April 27th Bicycle Ride
During the first 4 miles of today’s ride I thought I wore an invisibility cloak. Two cars pulled up in front of me but I swerved to avoid them. The first “mommy van” pulled out of a side street without even looking my direction. Next a daycare bus drove out of the daycare parking lot again not looking in my direction. The wide street provided some space for me to move to the right curb out of the way. Just when I wondered about the cloak a Jeep Wrangler stopped to let pass by the parking lot entrance they wanted to exit. Whew! I left the cloak at home after all.
The wind from yesterday and today moved the clouds in to cover the blue sky from earlier in the week. Every once in awhile the sun would cut through the clouds to keep it heated up during the ride at 83 to 86 degrees. With the south wind at 13.8 mph and gusts of 21.9 mph the humidity increased to 57% at the start (1:15) dropping to 47% at the finish (4:02). With this strong wind I got behind in my average speed for the first 15 miles and could not recover enough time to get my average speed up to 15.0 mph or more, ending up at 14.7 mph. At one point I was behind over 3 minutes from the pace to hit 15.0+ mph. I did recover a lot of time once I turned out of the wind though. Out of the 7 speed splits only 3 were 15.0 mph or above. I did manage hit a 24.4 mph max speed. Not biking the next 2 or 3 days should let my legs recover some.
I wanted to get over 30 miles today since I will not be able to ride the last 2 days of this week. Today’s 32.23 miles brought the total miles this week to 162.94 and April miles to 656.25. Year to date I stand at 1875.61 miles. Some other numbers from today’s ride:
- 2:11:50 riding time
- 34:43 time stopped (Huffman Chevron resting accounts for most of this. I thought going west after this point the wind would be in my face, it did not turn out to be real bad.)
- 10:54:17 riding time this week
- 43:26:39 riding time in April (21 biking days so far)
- 77.3 RPM average cadence (not as slow as I thought it might end up at)
