I accomplished today what I couldn’t yesterday – January 18th Bike Ride
I accomplished today what I couldn’t yesterday: go biking. Twice yesterday I attempted to go biking and was stymied by rain. Today the weather changed to a chilly 66 degrees at the start and 64 when I got home. In the shade on the trails in was a little cooler than I preferred but it was dry. We didn’t get much rain but enough to stop me. Tomorrow the warmer weather returns (at least the forecast says so) with 72 degrees. The clear sky and 5 to 6 mph wind added to the biking pleasure.
When I rode today’s route earlier I noticed a bridge on the trail in a direction I did bike before. Actually there is a pair of bridges over a rather deep runoff gully. Today I stopped to take some pictures. The gallery below is 6 of them. In the future I will bike this route to see where it goes.
Recently the saddle on the Motobecane 700HT MTB has been coming loose while I bike. I changed saddles thinking that was the problem. Today the problem persisted so I stopped at the Ace Hardware in Kingwood during the ride to get a lockwasher. My theory of the nut working loose on the seat clamp turned out to be wrong when I looked closer after installing the lockwasher; the two halves of the clamp that are supposed to grip the saddle rails do not come close enough to the rails and the saddle can wiggle loose when I ride. The seatpost looks rather cheap so I cannot be too surprised. The fast solution adds some medal filler around the rails to engage the clamp. The long term solution is a better seatpost.
Because of the time spent at the hardware store I shortened the route to 17.37 miles. My average speed was a respectable 12.1 mph (for my MTB), 20.6 mph max speed and 74.6 RPM cadence. January and YTD miles total 122.79.
