Two Days of Self Created Drama – November 29th Bike Ride
The last two days has included self-created drama. Last night while I was fixing dinner I decided to see how deep the serrated edge on the Cutright wax paper box can slice my thumb. I found that it cut more than wax paper and my right thumb has a cut about 1/8″ deep and 3/4″ long. It looked like I might need to make a trip to the doctor but the bleeding stopped and the cut looks like it is going to be okay. My wife wanted to pour alcohol over it and I was not in favor of this but it was done and I survived but I was shaking the thumb a lot from the pain.
Drama two was focused on helping my oldest daughter with a Barnes & Noble Nook Color ereader hack. B&N has a super deal on refurbished Nook Color’s and it is possible to load Android 2.3 on it and have a very good tablet. I have one that I like very much. In the process of making the microSD card for her Nook Color i messed up the one I used. For some reason I could not fix mine for two days. This was very frustrating and I have been working on fixing it for two days. Fortunately for that project the weather yesterday was too chilly for me to ride (58 degrees was the high) so I could focus on the fix but today the weather warmed up to 65 degrees when I finally solved the problem and decided to make my ride today one to take the envelope to the post office. I was beginning to think I would not solve this problem but I was able to get to the post office in time for the evening pickup and still ride 13.59 miles.
As I was getting ready to leave on my ride I squeezed the tires to check the pressure and thought they were a little low. When I put the pump on I saw the pressure was down below 40 psi. This probably accounts for the slow speeds I have had when I thought I should have been going faster. After pumping up the tires to 52 psi or so I jumped on the bike and noticed right away the ease of pedaling. So today’s ride average speed 12.8 mph and the max speed was 23.9 mph. My average cadence 79.7 RPM, almost what I do on my road bike. Even though I got a much later start than I planned (4:15 PM) I was still able to get a good ride in. The sky was clear but I did get caught trying cross some streets by the rush hour traffic. November miles are now 387.80 and year to date I have ridden 5371.30 miles. I am not sure if it will warm up enough to ride tomorrow or not. The forecast is for a high of 61 degrees, just barely over my wimp cutoff of 60.
