Cool Front Blows In, Mountain Bike Out – October 18th Bike Ride
The weather changed during the early morning with a cool front blowing in. I decided this would be a good time to ride my Motobecane 700HT mountain bike. It was 68 degrees when I first checked this morning and by the time I started my ride at 9:51 it had went to 64 degrees. The wind was a strong 11 mph to 15 mph but this did not seem to be as strong in the woods I was riding in. The sky was that clear blue again.
Riding a mountain bike is different from my road bike in several ways: not as fast, some different muscles used, I use my arm strength more. I noticed my lower back muscles were complaining about the effort.
I rode mostly on greenbelt trails with occasional street crossings. There were numerous people walking and jogging on the trails. I passed three HPD bike patrol officers. One of them was riding without his helmet strap fastened. Some people were bundled up and some were not. I was bundled some with a long sleeve jersey, leg warmers and windbreaker. I almost wore full finger gloves but changed my mind. That was good move because it wasn’t that cool.
