After a Rest Day I Pick Up the Pace – August 22nd Bike Ride
I did not ride yesterday because I had ridden 6 days in a row. A day of recovery was in order plus I wanted to watch stage 2 of the Vuelta a Espana. I thought the USA Pro Challenge was starting yesterday but I as wrong; it begins today. Today’s ride shows what a rest date can do: my average speed was 15.5 mph (15.6 from Garmin Connect) on a 27.95 mile ride. My max speed was 20.3 mph and average cadence was 82.1 RPM. The cadence was almost 2 RPM higher than my Saturday ride.
As I write this at 2:20PM my home weather station shows the temperature to be 102.4 degrees. I did not get to start as early as I normally do because the carpet cleaners were coming at 9:00AM so I was delayed and did not leave until 10:09. By then the temperature was 86 degrees and was 96 degrees when I finished. So I got back before the 100+ hit but just barely. The skies are clear with no rain in sight which I would probably not recognize if it were to rain. Even the wind cannot make up its mind being variable at 4 mph.
August miles are up to 405.05 and year to date miles are 3843.70. I plan to ride Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and drive to Wichita Falls on Friday.
