Sticky Chain – June 2nd Bike Ride
After a rest day on Tuesday I hit the road this evening after work. The skies were threatening in the distance and there was a hint of coolness in the wind. I noticed after I left home that my chain was sticking every so often. In the past this meant the removable master link on the Wipperman chain was not lubricated. Since I was on the road I had to wait until I got to the gas stations along my route to look for an empty oil can in the trash. The first station did not have any but I remembered the O’Reilly Auto Parts store a short distance away. They only had one trash can out front but there was an empty automatic transmission fluid bottle. This was perfect and the little oil left in it was just enough to solve the sticky removable link. Smooth pedaling the rest of the ride.
With the added daylight from daylight savings time I will be able to lengthen my evening rides to the 27-28 mile range. Tonight was the first. Overcast skies, mid-80’s temperature and light 9 mph SSE breeze was good for riding. One other rider was spotted on the McKay Causeway headed west while I was going east.
