I think that one reason motorists discern trikes so well and give them so much room on the road is because trikers are, as it were, running scared. They feel low-down and potentially unobserved and so take nothing for granted. Instead they fly flags six feet high, wear optic clothing, and display flashing red lights that emphatically grab drivers’ attention.
