Santa came a week early for hikers and bikers on the near Northwest side this year, with the official opening of the five-mile-long MKT Rails to Trails project.
The MKT, named for the original Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad that operated in the corridor, is the latest addition to a countywide network of trails and bicycle lanes spanning 459 miles. A total of five new trails adding 15 miles opened in Houston in 2009. …
