Bicycle officers making a difference

Imagine this job on a sunny fall day.
You ride your Fuji mountain bike up and down the streets of residential subdivisions, seeing up-close and personal what’s going on — and getting to know the people there, while also getting a little exercise.
If things are slow, you might be able to fill a little time checking out kid’s bikes — or maybe even getting into a bike race with a couple of 10-year-old boys.
If it doesn’t sound like much of a job, don’t be fooled, because it’s the job of three police officers who say it helps them learn their community and the folks in it first-hand — and lets the public learn about the police as well, which is the goal of the bicycle patrol unit now nearing a year of service at the Cibolo Police Department.
