Can I Lose Holiday Fat Fast?
Q: I had a fun holiday season but — uh oh — I gained 10 pounds. Ugh! Now I’m disgusted with myself and want to get rid of it quickly. How can I lose this excess weight in the next couple of weeks? — Chris G.
Coach Fred Matheny Replies: As wisecracking nutritionists say, the only way to lose 10 pounds quickly is to give birth. (Ed note: Or you could have a pulmonary embolism, good for 18 pounds in 9 days!)
Weight can go on rapidly when you eat too much and don’t exercise. But it’s counterproductive and even dangerous to try to get rid of it just as fast.
The general rule for good health and long-lasting weight reduction is to lose no more than two pounds per week. So, it’ll take you upwards of a month to eliminate the results of all that fruitcake and eggnog.
