Getting ready
Just before daybreak, Ed Carlberg and Gina Kelly readied themselves for the Hotter’N Hell Hundred.
In the parking lot behind Midtown Manor, the Norman, Okla., couple pinned on their numbers and lathered themselves down with sunscreen.
“We wanted to do this a long time,” Kelly said.
Carlberg said his brother kept bragging about the race, and finally, he had to come and see it.
They were both riding in the 100k.
“We hope,” Kelly quickly added.
In July, the pair rode 45 miles in the Norman Conquest.
As Carlberg and Kelly prepared for the ride ahead, a pack of cyclists passed them headed for the start line. The cool weather and accompanying breeze caused one rider to exclaim, “This is the perfect weather!”
